The pond provides a safe and shallow haven without tides but with tricky wind shifts, where children can develop their sailing and racing whilst having lots of fun with friends. Families can also discover a fantastic introduction to sailing through Lymington Town Sailing Club, one of the area’s most welcoming and family-focused clubs. As an RYA Recognised Training Centre, the club offers a clear pathway for young sailors, from complete beginners taking their first steps on the water through to confident racers and cruisers. Children can join Saturday morning junior training sessions, take part in the RYA OnBoard programme, enjoy fun family sailing days and progress through nationally recognised RYA Start Sailing (Level 1) and Better Sailing (Level 2) courses. With experienced instructors, friendly volunteers and plenty of opportunities to build confidence, make friends and enjoy time on the water, it is an excellent place for children to develop a lifelong love of sailing.

Lymington Amateur Rowing Club is also running Junior Learn to Row sessions in August. This five-day course for new rowers aged 12+ running each day from Monday 24th to Friday 28th August, 10am–1pm with a blend of indoor rowing and water based Coxed Quad rowing.
