Waste & Recycling
UK Generated Waste
Facilities for disposing of waste are available as follows:
Town Quay
The following facilities are available within the bin room located within the visitor washroom building adjacent to the Town Quay pontoon:
- General waste – Approved, Black plastic, Plastic films & bags, Polystyrene, Rigid hard plastic, floor sweepings, Dirty food packaging. Not Approved, Food, Glass, Paper & Card, Recyclable plastic, Batteries.
- Glass recycling – Approved, Bottle & Jars. Not Approved, Drinking glasses, Pyrex cookware, Mirror, Light bulb.
- Dry Mixed recycling – Approved, Paper & Card, Plastic, Cartons, Metal Cans, Lids, Foil. Not Approved, Black plastic, Carrier bags, Polystyrene, Rigid hard plastic.
- Food/Organic Waste, that has not left UK territorial waters. Approved, Food, Peelings, Tea bags, Plate scrapings. Not Approved, Glass or Metal, Liquid, Large bones, Oils, used paper towels.
Dan Bran Pontoon
The following facilities are located at the bridge head of the Dan Bran pontoon:
- General waste – Approved, Black plastic, Plastic films & bags, Polystyrene, Rigid hard plastic, floor sweepings, Dirty food packaging. Not Approved, Food, Glass, Paper & Card, Recyclable plastic, Batteries.
- Glass recycling – Approved, Bottle & Jars. Not Approved, Drinking glasses, Pyrex cookware, Mirror, Light bulb.
- Dry Mixed recycling – Approved, Paper & Card, Plastic, Cartons, Metal Cans, Lids, Foil. Not Approved, Black plastic, Carrier bags, Polystyrene, Rigid hard plastic.
- Food/Organic Waste, that has not left UK territorial waters. Approved, Food, Peelings, Tea bags, Plate scrapings. Not Approved, Glass or Metal, Liquid, Large bones, Oils, used paper towels.
International Catering Waste (ICW)
Food waste (and anything contaminated by the waste, for example packaging) is considered ICW if your vessel (except fishing vessels) has travelled from outside the territorial waters (12 nautical miles) of the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man, even if you stocked up for the entire journey in the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man.
In order to prevent outbreaks of notifiable diseases, you are required to dispose of this waste separately from domestic (UK) waste. If you need to dispose of ICW please let the Harbour Office know. We will provide you with a plastic bag which we will ask you to seal the ICW in. Please give the sealed bag to a member of our on the water team who will transfer it to a separate container for specialist disposal.
