MAIB SAFETY DIGEST No.1 2024

The Marine Accident Investigation Branch has published its MAIB Safety Digest 2024 spring edition. It features a varied collection of lessons learned from recent marine accidents involving vessels from the merchant, fishing and recreational sectors.

The sole purpose of the MAIB Safety Digest 2024 is to prevent similar accidents happening again.

LHC would particularly like to highlight the following sections:

Case 18 - Highlights the risks associated with lone working and provides a timely reminder of the need to carry a PLB when working alone and wearing a personal flotation device. The same message translates into lone water sports activities in the leisure sector.

Case 22 – Occured in Lymington and highlights the risks associated with drinking and driving and also highlighting the risks associated with navigating at speed at night and not using a plotter to show the route.

Safety Bulletin No 3/2023 has been reprinted highlighting the risks posed to passengers on 'experience' trips highlighting a case where a passenger suffered life changing spinal injuries.
